The Newborn Photographs you just HAVE to take

Expecting a baby is undoubtedly one of the most exciting times of your life. Pregnancy rushes by in a whirlwind of doctor’s appointments, shopping for baby essentials, and ensuring you’ve tied up all loose ends at work before your maternity leave starts. The arrival of a little one marks a monumental milestone in your life, and you’re eager to capture every precious moment of this incredible journey. From chatting with parents at my newborn photography studio and from my own wonderful memories, I know that the first few days after your baby’s arrival pass by in a beautiful, blurry baby bubble. So, with that in mind, I’ve created a definitive list of newborn photographs that are an absolute must-capture!

Planning Ahead for Baby’s Arrival

My list of photographs is available for you to download as a free PDF below. It’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with the list before your little one arrives, as many of the photographs I recommend are taken ideally within the first 24 hours after your baby is born. All of these can be captured using your mobile phone.  The vast majority of family albums are made up of snaps from camera phones, but you may need to prep a little before baby arrives. For photos on your phone, ensure you have plenty of storage and don’t forget to pack a charger in your hospital bag - those early moments are priceless, and you won’t want to run out of charge! If you have a more advanced camera, be sure to pack extra storage cards and spare batteries. Don’t forget to make sure your birthing partner is familiar with the list and how to use your camera if you’re not using a mobile phone.

Capturing Precious Moments

The snapshots you capture when your baby is brand new will become cherished treasures in your family’s photo albums. Remember that while your mobile phone is perfectly suited for creating prints for your albums, it might not deliver the high-quality resolution needed for larger wall art displays in your home. If you long to have stunning portraits that you can proudly showcase as canvasses or prints, you may want to consider booking a professional newborn portrait session with me. You can schedule a session at any time, but for the most breathtaking results, babies are usually younger than 3 weeks old. This means it’s best to book with me before your baby’s arrival.
